Kittur Rani Chennamma

Kittur Rani Chennamma was the Queen of the princely state of Kittur, Karnataka. Because there was no male heir to the throne, British conspired to take control of Kittur under the Doctrine of Lapse. She led an armed rebellion against the British East India Company in AD 1824. She defeated the British in the 1st battle. In the 2nd battle, they brought in bigger armies from Mysore and Sholapur and surrounded Kittur. Rani Chennamma lost the second war and was imprisoned and later died.
